I've tried acupuncture before, and it didn't help. How is this different?
There are many different styles of acupuncture and acupuncturists have varying levels of training and experience. Rory completed a 5 year degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in 2009, and has had many years of practice treating pain conditions. He uses a less common but incredibly effective technique that yields quick and lasting results. Although trained in many styles of acupuncture, Rory has found that distal techniques work most effectively; selecting a small number of specific points located below the knees and elbows. The site of pain is never needled; therefore disrobing is never required.
Does acupuncture hurt?
In short, no. It's more of a dull ache or heavy sensation.

What is Chinese Medicine?
Chinese Medicine (CM) is an evidence-based medicine that differs significantly from Western conventional medicine. The holistic approach of CM considers the whole person, taking into account multiple factors including digestion, sleep quality, stress and emotional states. Rather than just treating the surface level symptoms we work to treat the underlying problems and prevent the condition recurring.

Herbal Medicine?
We find that herbal medicine is the most effective way to address many chronic skin conditions, internal disorders and gynecological disorders. Chinese Medicine uses a polypharmacy approach to herbal formula construction, meaning that multiple herbs are combined in one formula. These formulas can contain between 4 to 20 different herbs and are tailored to the individual patient. Formulas and dosages are modified as the condition changes and improves.

How do I take the herbs?
The herbs are prescribed as concentrated extracts that are dissolved in water.

What do the herbs taste like?
The herbs taste terrible! But they work very well.

Can I take herbs while pregnant or breast feeding?
It depends on the herb and condition. Topical creams and acupuncture treatments are fine.
Can children be treated?
Yes. Children are treated the same way as adults only given much lower herb dosages according to their weight. In most cases herbal washes, creams, and ointments are enough to at least alleviate the major symptoms and eliminate the need to use topical steroidal creams. Generally acupuncture is not prescribed to children.

How long does it take?
It's impossible to give sufficient answer for every case. Typically, the length of treatment depends on the condition and severity of the individual case. Treatment can last from days to months. A more definite answer can be given after initial assessment has been made.

Do you offer online consultations?
Yes. Online consultations are available. Obviously, acupuncture treatments are not available online.
